Lunch Date with Diane von Furstenberg

I am giving the opportunity for one fan to be my plus one at a lunch with the amazing designer Diane von Furstenberg.  All you have to do is like the post on my Facebook Page and tell me why I should take you in the comments bar.

Diane von Furstenberg is undoubtedly regarded as a worldwide fashion and business icon.

Born in Belgium to a Romanian father and Greek-born, Jewish mother, no one could have predicted her rise to the international stage.

At 22 she married a German Prince but was determined to have an identity of her own. "The minute I knew I was about to be Egon's wife, I decided to have a career. I wanted to be someone of my own, and not just a plain little girl who got married beyond her desserts."

Diane added fashion to her royalty in 1972. Her wrap dress became an overnight sensation and had sold in excess of five million by 1976. Her dress became an icon of female liberation in the seventies – coming to symbolise female power and freedom. DVF is now an international powerhouse headquartered in New York and managing trade in the most exclusive retail precincts of 70 different countries around the world.

Diane received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and one year later was elected to her current position as its President. Diane’s commitment to empowering women is expressed through fashion, philanthropy and mentorship. She sits on the board of the non-profit Vital Voices, and in 2010 established The DVF Awards to support and honour exceptional women and organisations. This year Diane was named the most powerful woman in fashion by Forbes Magazine.

For the first time in twenty years, Diane will visit Australia and this is your exclusive opportunity to witness the icon. The woman behind the eponymous label. America’s fashion godmother. DVF.

  1. Diane Von Furstenburg is a woman who made lemonade out of her lemons. Except that her lemons are what most girls would call a 'fairytale ending'. To see the entering into royalty as a 'comma' and not a 'full-stop', Fustenburg is an inspiration to women who never stop sensing the opportunities that surround their passions. And imagine, a word she speaks could spark some kind of 'comma' in each of the women in the room. I'd love the chance to join in that sort of magic!

  2. As a law student in my penultimate year of university, I considering flying to New York to study at the fashion law institute for which Diane founded. To bring the knowledge back to Australia to help emerging local designers as they deal with the legal pressures associated with the fashion industry, I'd be delighted to meet such an inspiring woman! Bring 'me' a step closer to my fashion law dream! Love SFB! Lillie x

  3. Words are too cheap and few to define the inspiration and beauty crafted and birthed into the world, from this woman alone. DVF once said that she never really knew what she wanted to do with herself but always knew the kind of woman she wanted to become. A thought that deeply resonated with me. A woman that deeply resonated with me. Even amongst clouds, uncertainty and difficulty such a powerful and unwavering sense of self is really the most fashionable accessory you could ever have. Something I now wear alongside by Celine and YSL.

  4. Hi SFB!

I posted this on your facebook page :-)

I would love to go with you to this event because I totally appreciate Ms DVF :-) I remember watching a segment on her on CNN and fell in love. Her wrap dresses are a classic and timeless fashion creation. She is a strong woman and an admirable figure for feminine liberation. As I get older, I totally dig that! Haha.

I think we can also have a laugh :-) I'm friendly, down-to-earth and good company :-) Promise to make you laugh and feel at ease! Plus, importantly, I will get a chance to look back on this as an opportunity where you helped with my "blogging" career, and I will be very grateful. (They say, always remember the ones that helped you start)...

    Thanks!
